“100 Reasons” Intro Video

Land and Water Acknowledgment

“100 Reasons to Resist” is a place-based project, and any event honoring place should recognize and affirm the historic and ongoing relationship between Indigenous communities and land and water.

The images of “100 Reasons” will feature lands historically occupied by the Three Fires Confederacy — the Anishinaabek Odawa, Ojibwe, and Bodewadmi (Pottawatomi) nations.

FLOW’s (For Love of Water) offers a
water and land acknowledgment that honors generations of Indigenous communities for their care of sacred waters and includes this invitation: “We invite all to honor the first guardians of the water we love by incorporating the Anishinaabek’s water ethic and traditional ecological knowledge into our individual and collective relationships with water.”

For every book purchased during my April-May 2025 donation campaign, 100% of my author proceeds will go to environmental organizations. I recommend purchasing via BookShop here, but you can purchase the book wherever you choose!

The “100” comes from my modest goal of inspiring 100 book purchases, though I hope we will donate many more. I’ll be posting on Facebook and Instagram (and here) a “100 Reasons” series of images featuring Michigan waterways, forests, and places we love.

My hope is that these “100 Reasons” will inspire us all to resist the tendency to rationalize away our caring — to believe that there is nothing we can do.

As Rebecca, the narrator of Land Marks says: “To feel a part of land and water and sky, to love rocks and rivers and the life that knows them, [brings] so much joy and so much grief.”

My antidote to eco-grief is this campaign.

How this Works — Your Donation:

When you purchase Land Marks in April or May, I will automatically donate proceeds to the ten Michigan environmental organizations listed below.

Want to Designate a Particular Group for Your Donation?

Send a brief message, here, to let me know you purchased Land Marks and want your donation to go to a particular organization. If you live outside Michigan, I am happy to donate to a national organization if you prefer.
